Words of Wisdom from Anne Frank, and a way to apply them.
"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world". Anne Frank
A young girl, with wisdom beyond her years, hidden away from those who would persecute her, identifies in one sentence the possibility that is open to every single one of us.
We spend so much time concerning ourselves with the problems that are external - wondering how we can improve them, that we forget that we can in fact improve ourselves without waiting a single moment.
Here are two ways that you can improve the world, starting this instant. :
Check for tension being held by your body, and make a conscious effort to relax anywhere you might find it. Let your shoulders unburden themselves if they are tense. Let the muscles around your eyes relax…. Check anywhere else that you may be tense, such as your jaw, your throat, your hands.
How will releasing this tension make the world better? Good question. If you’re less tense, you’re more open to possibility, creativity and collaboration. Your physical tension tells your brain that you’re preparing for something bad - some kind of attack or impact. Are you? If so, what is it?
Be more curious. Curiosity is the antidote to so much of what is wrong in the world. The more we can approach things with curiosity, the more potential we have to engage, learn and innovate. Curiosity helps us avoid being judgemental and rigid in our views. It helps us appreciate both ourselves and others.
There is so much for us to do, and although much does need to be changed in the world beyond ourselves, there is also much we can do within.
What's the one thing you can do today to make the world better?
